Website Promotion with Dynamic Banners

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

Any website owner or web master should know that there are a number of factors that lead to a successful website.

First you need a good idea or a good service or product to advertise via your website.
Secondly you need a good quality, professionally designed website that will appeal to your potential visitors and works well on a wide range of computers and other web-browsing devices.
Thirdly you need to promote the website and spread the word about its existence as widely as possible.

The first of these is up to you, but Pixelwave Web Design can help you with the design and production of your website and also the promotion of your website. One of the most important aspect of website promotion is that of gaining good search engine rankings in a process know as Search Engine Optimisation. Onsite optimisation involves producing the website in such a way that it allows search engine to easy catalogue the site for inclusion in its database. Offsite promotion is equally important and involves (among other things) gaining as many inbound links to your website as possible. An inbound link is a link from another website to your website.

Many people tend to promote their new site for a month or so and then hope that other people will simply find their website and link to it so increasing the number of inbound links that it has. Unfortunately this isn’t always the case and most webmasters need to be a little more pro-active in their search for inbound links. Rather than ‘going out’ and looking for these links yourself, another approach is to simply encourage your existing visitors to add links to your website on their personal websites or on other sites that they visit. Many fairly successful website will have a community of dedicated followers, many of whom will be only too glad to show their appreciation of your website and link back to it, so why not use this dedication to your benefit and encourage them to link to you.

The easiest way to do this is to simply provide them with the information they need in order to create a link to your site. Rather than simply using a textual link though you are likely to want to add a bit of emphasis by providing images, buttons or banners that people can use to link to you. These are more attractive and therefore are more likely to encourage people to publish them and also encourages people to click on them which after all is the ultimate goal.

I’ve been working on Fairies World for a while now, it is a popular site receiving over 1 million page views a month, but we feel we can improve on this. A recent addition by Pixelwave Web Design is that of the fairy and fantasy art image galleries. These have proved hugely popular so I am currently working on a dynamic banner that will display random images from these galleries. The idea is to create a small snippet of code that people will be able to place on their websites to display these random images.

The banner should add interest to the website upon which it is published and of course create lots of inbound links for Fairies World.

Website Maintenance and SEO Updates

Friday, October 27th, 2006

I’m keeping busy here at Pixelwave Web Design at the moment. A few of my existing clients have asked me to do some maintenance work on their sites, I’m busy with a couple of new clients and I’m in the process of finishing off a few projects and starting a couple of new ones:

  • I’ve been making a few functional changes to the Palaeontological Associations online ordering system and adding some content too.
  • I’ve been doing some SEO updates to Erozone, a sex toys shop in Shrewsbury.
  • I’m working on a list if updates for the website of a local artist, Clare Maynard.
  • Fairies World is keeping me busy as ever and has just reached our target of 1 miilion page views per month.

As far as I am concerned it is great to be so busy, even if it does mean a few late nights and early mornings. I’m enjoying the support side of things at the moment as well, as I seem to have had a morning of questions and enquiries from clients all of which I have been able to answer quickly and effectively leaving me with a sense of well-being after helping people out. All part of the job and it is good to talk to satisfied customers on the phone rather than just send e-mails back and forth.

Welsh Holiday Accommodation website

Friday, October 20th, 2006

I’ve just started a new project for a family run business offering luxury holiday accommodation in West Wales.

The project is a fairly straight forward, brochure style website designed to reflect the contemporary, luxury accommodation offered. Pabell Len Powys is a detached 19th century barn newly converted as a self-catering unit with a traditional exterior and contemporary interior. It is located on an organic sheep farm in the tranquil Dyfi Valley, not far from Machynlleth.

The owners are friends of another client of mine who, pleased with the work I had done for them, passed on my details. I’m always delighted to get new clients but when they come from direct word-of-mouth recommendations it always pleases me as I know I must be doing something right and offering the service and final product that my clients require.

Watch this space as the new website will be released soon.

Online Kite Surf Shop

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

Pixelwave Web Design are currently working on the addition of an eCommerce online kite surf shop for Kite Surf Wales.

Kite Surf Wales is run by a friend of mine and was one of the earlier websites designed by Pixelwave Web Design. It has been running for several years now and generates lots of enquiries and bookings for Shem, which keep him busy all year round. It has excellent search engine rankings and Shem often gets asked to supply boards, kites and equipment to his clients. He has been doing this on a small scale for a while and has connections with several distributors, importers and manufacturers and will soon be launching an all new online kite surf shop selling all of the latest kite surfing equipment.

The kites surf shop will integrate seamlessly with the existing design of his website and will allow purchases to be made online. In the background Shem will have access to an administration panel allowing him to keep the product catalogue up to date, manage and process orders and administer his shop via various online controls.

Pixelwave Web Design obviously wish him all the best with this new facet of his business.

Mario Paci™ Watch website goes live

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

Watch Obsession, a website selling designer watches and accessories, that I am currently working has now gone live. So far there is a simple holding page with a few products for sale, but I am currently working on an eCommerce solution that will allow the website owners to maintain their product lines and sell online directly to their customers. Watch (no pun intended!) this space for more details.

Websites Keeping me Busy

Sunday, October 1st, 2006

I’ve been a little quiet on the ‘latest news’ front as I’ve been busy with continuing work on Fairies World, working hard on the Beacons Active sites and updating various other websites that I have built. Fairies World goes from strength to strength, with lots of new developments and more importantly from my point of view a very happy client and happy website visitors. The new image galleries that I set up for them now has over 1000 images and has been viewed over 300,000 times already. Fairies World are also developing various relationships and affiliations with other compnaies in a never ending effort to improve the website and to collaborate with fairies artists from all over the world.

Beacons Active has been keeping me busy and is due for release in the near future. It is just about to go into its testing phase before being made available online.

I’ve also been working on updates for the University of Wales, Aberystwyth Estates Office website in addiition to minor updates on a number of other sites. It all keeps me busy, and at times a little stressed, but overall I’m pleased with the way things are going and enjoying the relationships I’m developing with my clients.

Family website and fairy gifts go Live

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

I’ve been busy tying up loose ends before heading off to the Isle of Man on holiday, but I have also managed to release the Family Genealogy website I’ve been working on. It is a private site so I won’t link to it here, but these are the initial comments from my client upon seeing the site:

Well – I am impressed. Anyone that knows can tell you that’s no mean feat!
Its an excellent piece of work and even my blond Sister should find it intuitive.

Fairies World T-ShirtI’ve also integrated a simple Fairy Gift Shop using an order fulfillment system to Fairies World. As usual there is a list of other things for me to do associated with Fairies World, but those will have to wait until I get back from holiday. In the meantime my recent additions to the site such as ths gift shop, weblogs, video and audio podcasts, photo galleries and content manegment systems will enable the site owner to add new content simply and easily while I am away. Fairies World will therefore continue to grow and develop, and when I am back I’ll be able to work on new features for the site whilst the site owner continues to concentrate on adding new content for its visitors.
