Website Maintenance and some Feedback

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

I’m keeping nicely busy here designing websites in Wales. On top of all of the usual maintenance and updates to various websites I’ve also been doing the quite a lot of IT trouble-shooting. Both here in my office with my own hardware and for my clients. I’m not exactly a computer engineer but my friendly, helpful nature when building peoples websites seems to encourage people to phone me whenever something goes a little wrong with their computers. I’m not complaining, it is actually quite nice to jump in the car and head off to someones house / office to fix their computer. It makes a change from the same old 4 walls of my office, It gives me a chance to have a chat and catch up with my clients and more often than not I get a cup of tea thrown in for good measure too!

On one such visit this week I was speaking to the owners of Aberleri Seaside Cottages (a website built last year by Pixelwave Web Design) so I asked them how their site was going and was pleased to hear that it is working wonders. They are as busy as ever (the phone was ringing with booking inquiries whilst I was there), and the majority of their inquiries are now coming through the website. So much so that they probably have too many printed brochures this year as people have been getting the info they need from the website so don’t need it in print. At least they’ll know for next year and will be able to save some costs on printing. It’s always good to hear that the work I’ve done is fulfilling its purpose and that my clients are happy with it.

I’ve also recently completed some functional updates to the OGI-TM website that I built last year. Everything seems to be going well with the site but as the number of records grew the site owners needed a way to export those records so that they could be stored offline in a spreadsheet. I created a little script that exported the data to an excel file and my clients seem happy with the results, at least the response I got from them was:

This solution Its absolutely perfect!

Wholesale Website for Slick Activewear

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Following the recent release of Slick Activewear’s eCommerce website built by Pixelwave Web Design, I am now working on a similar website for them aimed at their wholesale customers. The new wholesale site will allow their approved wholesale customers to browse through their product line and order products in bulk through their online ordering system.

As always, from my point of view it is good to be working for existing clients as repeat business is good business.

In addition to this project for Slick Activewear, things have been busy here. Work continues on a daily basis on Fairies World and its associated sister websites. I’ve been working hard on the new Community Website for the Sakhalin Expats and work on the website for Bryn Siriol Dental Practice is progressing well.

I have also been working on various small updates to other websites including Get Active Beacons, SASappers and Cymric Cards.

I do still have the capacity for a few more projects over the coming months though, so if you would like to see your next website development project added to this list, feel free to contact me. I’ll be happy to help.

Bilingual website design in Wales

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

The recently launched Glanmor Hotel website built in Wales by Pixelwave Web Design has now gone bilingual. The website was part-funded by the Welsh language board so had to be publised in both English and Welsh versions.

I’m all for promoting the Welsh language and would like to see more websites in Wales committed to providing content in both languages. Unfortunately, all too often this isn’t the case simply due to the fact that there isn’t enough return on investment from getting a bilingual website developed. It is great news then that the Welsh Language Board are funding such projects and encouraging small businesses in Wales to build bilingual websites.

If you are a small business or organisation looking for website design in Wales then it may be worth approaching the Welsh Language Board to see if you can get funding to translate and build a biliingual website.

Website Development for Expat Community

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

One of my regular clients has come back to me recently with a new web development project to carry out for them.

Obviously the new project is exciting, but for me the fact that it is repeat business makes it even better. First of all it means that the client has been more than pleased with the work I have done for them in the past. I’ve already built a couple of websites for them so the fact that they keep coming back for more is great.

Secondly it means we already have a good working relationship and know what to expect from each other so the time invested developing such a relationship in the past means we are able to get straight down to work on the website project. This obviously saves time and money.

The website (or websites as it may turn out to be) are aimed at an expat community on the island of Sakhalin. The full brief has yet to be finalised but it should be starting with a classifieds feature and a personal/dating section. These will be built using commercially available scripts to keep the price and development time down. I shall keep you up to date here as the project develops.

Slick Activewear eCommerce Website

Friday, February 8th, 2008

I recently had a final meeting with the owners of Slick Activewear and released their new eCommerce website whilst they were here. They are looking forward to receiving orders, and have been so pleased with my work so far that they have already been passing my name on to others and are soon to be hiring me for a new project of theirs.

Slick Activewear produce T-shirts, clothing and accessories aimed mainly at the adventure sports market. With garments for mountain bikers, surfers, snowboarders, kayakers and many other outdoor sports their should be something in their range for everyone. Their new online shop allows you to browse through and purchase their original designs.

The website also gives complete control of the catalogue and product details to the shop owners, allowing them to keep the catalogue up to date with their latest products via an easy to use online control panel.

Pixelwave Web Design wish them all the best with their new shop and look forward to working on their next project.

Borth Hotel website goes live

Monday, January 21st, 2008

I’m still working on a Welsh translation and a Welsh version of the site, but the English version of the Glanmor Hotel website has now gone live.

As usual it has been good working on a site for such a local business as I have been able to pop down the road and speak to the owner of the hotel whenever I wanted. Pixelwave Web Design designed and built the website, did the photography and advised on the copy-writing and organised the domain name, hosting and is currently organising the translation. Being able to easily meet with the client made the project go smoothly and quickly and as soon as I have the Welsh version from the translator I will start work on the Welsh version of the site.

If you are looking for cheap hotel accommodation in West Wales, then take a look at the Glanmor Hotel.

Website Design for Hotel in Wales

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Happy New Year to everyone, I hope the festive season was kind to you. I had a few days off but now that 2008 is here Pixelwave Web Design is back in full swing and I’m working away on various projects as usual. I’ve just started work on a new project for a hotel not far from here.

Glanmor Hotel is a small, friendly family hotel situated at the northern end of Borth seafront overlooking the beautiful Cardigan Bay. The owners of the hotel have recently commissioned Pixelwave Web Design to build them a bilingual (English / Welsh) website to advertise the hotel. As the hotel owners have no internet experience Pixelwave Web Design will be managing the whole project, including the design and construction of the site, domain name and hosting arrangements, copy-writing, photography and also organising the Welsh translation.

The website itself is a fairly straight forward brochure style site and should be ready to go live early this year.

Just in time for Christmas, Pixelwave Web Design is pleased to announce the release of the new Cymric Cards website.

Pixelwave Web Design started work on the site in mid-November with the aim of completion in the New Year, but thanks to good communication and diligent effort on behalf of Janet Baxter and Pixelwave Design the site is now live.

The brochure style website changes with the seasons and showcases some of the greetings cards and postcards produced by Cymric Cards using photography by Janet Baxter. The cards are available to individuals and wholesale and feature Welsh landscapes, Flowers, Dolphins, Birds, Farm animals, butterflies, boats, planes and much more. For full details and downloadable catalogues and order forms visit Cymric Cards.

Watch Obsession Weblog Goes Live

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Just a quick update from Pixelwave Web Design to let you know that the Watch Obsession Weblog project that I’ve been working on has now gone live and the Webmaster is putting it to good use and updating it regularly.

As anyone who has read any of the web design and Search Engine Optimisation articles on this site will know, ‘Content is King’ when it comes to getting good search engine rankings. A weblog or any other type of Content Management System that allows a webmaster to easily and regularly update and add such content to a website can therefore pay dividends.

Such a system is of course only as good as the content that is added using the system and all too often people don’t use them to their full potential. It is therefore great to see that Watch Obsession are off to an excellent start and have been adding good quality, relevant content on a regular basis. If you want to know what is happening in the world of watches, then check out the Watch Obsession Weblog now.
