Website Promotion
It's strange how I always seem to be doing the same things or explaining the same principles to a number of clients all at the same time. One week everyone wants to know about eCommerce websites, the next week everyone seems interested in website accessibility issues. This past week has been no exception as I seem to have spent most of my time explaining various website promotion techniques to a number of clients.
These one-to-one meetings or e-mail conversations have usually taken the following pattern
- Explain the basics of how Search Engines work.
- Explain the importance of good ranking within SERPS.
- Explain the importance of keywords and how they can be used in link anchor text.
- Explain the importance of search engine optimisation (which I have already carried out as part of the web design and building process).
- Explain the importance of Inbound Links.
- Demonstrate the various methods and best practices for generating inbound links.
Hopefully most of this information has been taken onboard by my clients. Some will ask me to carry out the promotion of their websites on their behalf, others (with more time on their hands) will do it themselves. In my opinion website promotion should be an ongoing strategy with the aim of continually improving a websites ranking within the SERPS and continually increasing the number of visitors to the website. With a bit of work and a considerable amount of time, all these websites will start seeing increases in their traffic stats and increased sales.
As so much of time has been spent explaining the art of website promotion this week, this page has been created to include links to some of the basic principles involved. Hopefully it will act as a one stop resource centre allowing clients to refresh their memories of the techniques I have explained to them. In addition, as the clients carrying out their own website promotion will be spending a considerable amount of time submitting their sites to relevant web-directories, I have added an article titled How to submit to web directories
